M I S S E D !
ugh...haven't done a damn thing since last Thursday night's yoga! While not fully over being sick, I feel well enough to get back on track.
My plan was to get back on track last night, but my neighbor invited me over to watch the last games of the regular season. So instead of working out, I drank a few beers and watched baseball 'til about midnight. I finished watching from home. What a crazy night of baseball! From Mark Teixeira's grand slam, to Carl Crawford's game blowing drop. From Dan Johnson's tying homer with 2 outs and 2 strikes left in the bottom of the ninth, to Evan Longoria's walk off homer. Wow!
I need, need, need to get back on track tonight! and...I might have to work tonight.

Day Twenty Eight
Wednesday 09/28/2011
M I S S E D ! ! !
In court on Wednesday. Had 3 boys get sentenced to 384 months! They'll get out around age 50...if they are able to avoid picking up any charges while locked up. That's what you get for a string of gas station armed robberies. They were facing even more time too. I believe 4 charges were dropped.

Day Twenty Four
Saturday 09/24/2011
M I S S E D ! ! !
Saturday morning was my 5 year old's soccer game. Then we stopped at Lowe's to pick up their workshop project to go which was a fire engine (I still have yet to put them together with the boys...damn). Another pit stop at Walmart for for a few last minute camping supplies, and then back home to start packing for the bush.
I started noticing that I was feeling a bit rundown right around the time we were getting ready to leave. There were a few subtle hints along the way, but I really became conscious of it about the time we were driving off. I actually started down the street a little before throwing the jeep in reverse and calling the wife to bring me out some meds. One more stop at Walmart for a few more last minute things and we were on our way...running late.
I forgot my tackle box in the garage, after going through it and setting it aside. And, the new fishing pole I grabbed (still new in the plastic...a Christmas present for the boys from a friend of my mother in law), didn't work worth a crap. I fought that dag-on thing for at least an hour. That was frustrating. I was disappointed. I should have just grabbed mine, or one of the Scooby-Doo or Superman rods we had. I let my 8 year old dangle it in the water for a little while, even though the reel was inoperable.
Bring more water next time!
Camping was great. It was a real bonding experience for my 8 year old and I. Even if he was running around crazy for most of the time. Whenever he would take a break, I would be right there waiting for him, uninterrupted...besides talking to another one of the boys' father.
Man, was it hot! I slept in shorts and a t-shirt and I was sweating profusely. I finally covered myself with a blanket around 0230. I thought I was going to sleep alright on just an ISO mat. I shifted positions every 15 - 20 minutes. I need to look for a yoga mat or something with better padding! My 8 year old seemed to have slept well once he fell asleep.

Day Twenty Three

M I S S E D ! ! !
Friday was a looong day. Advanced Shield Training went well. We reviewed most of what we learned in the basic course. One thing I especially wasn't fond of was the way they incorporated bunker / bunker cover while incorporating a long gun. Rifle was held up with one hand (strong hand) and supported by the shield up to either a fore grip, or the magazine well. You would then bend your torso down to your strong side and attempt to line up your sights. I was fortunate enough to have a partner with an AR that had an EO Tech...iron sights would have been really tough. Using the EO Tech was tough enough under the circumstances.
Surprisingly, I was able to hold the rifle up longer than my partner was. I went first and never lowered it during the drill / course of fire. When he was up, he lowered it a few times. I'm not sure if that was a testament of my cardio, or a testament to my partner's lack thereof.
We also did a live fire officer down rescue (downed officer played by a plastic pretty light barrel), and a few other house clearing scenarios with airsoft guns. To end the day, we did some shield work on stairs. That's always been a tough one. I like the ways I've learned in the past better...for the most part. Officer down...while I understand the reasoning, I'm not crazy about the technique. They went over approaching the downed officer on an angle, as to where I vividly remember stepping over the downed officer (in another course by another instructor). Their reasoning was you don't want to draw anymore fire towards the downed officer than necessary. To me...either way you do it, fire is going to be directed towards him. Most direct route prevails in my mind.
By the time I got home, I was done! I don't remember moving much from the couch. I did however have 1.5 beers and I remember feeling disgusting afterwards...later on that night and in the morning. The partial beer I drank Sunday night, while sick, was much better. I guess my body enjoyed the break and had to re-adjust...

Day Twenty Two
Thursday 09/22/2011
Yoga
What's sore??? My lats, quads, shoulders, and my chest! I'm also feeling it in my hamstrings. Thought I might have pulled or injured something during plyo the other night, but I think it's alright. I'll have to stay conscious of it.
This weeks goal of at least 5 consecutive workouts and no beer is going pretty well...so far. Friday might be a little difficult. I'll be at the range for Advanced Shield Training all day. I'm sure it will make for a long day. And it's an hour's commute each way. I would like to workout that night, and go for a run early Saturday morning. We'll see how it all plays out.
I woke up from my sleep several times last night...wide awake, and full of energy...almost restless. Is it extra energy from working out? Not sure. Then, at about 0635, our five year old comes into our room and says,"It's time to get up." This from the child that never wants to get up (on school days). He was right though...it was time to get up. We had already snoozed once, and were pretty much lying awake in bed...procrastinating! I got up, fully energized!
AL East Champions!!! JORGE POSADA! What an awesome day / night yesterday was! While I normally fall asleep before the game ends, I stayed awake for this one! I was disappointed when the broadcast cut out and didn't show any of the champagne shenanigans in the locker room...oh well.

My lower receiver should be completed this evening!!! I'm very excited. Now, if only the upper receiver I want would come back in stock. Think I'll give a call and look into that now.

Day Twenty One
Wednesday 09/21/2011
Shoulders & Arms + ARX
Early morning this morning...well, kind of. Two in custody! Not too shabby.
Yankees won lastnight; Red Sox lost...all is right in the world. Ivan Nova pitched a hell of a game last night to shut out the Rays. If the Yankees win one game of their double header against the Rays today, they'll secure a spot in the post season. If they win both, and the Red Sox lose to the O's, then the Yankees will be division champs!

Got it in around 2000. I guess night time works better for me. There's no excuse of sleeping in. Plus, I get a bit more sleep in the mornings. May not be entirely true; since I shower and I'm awake a little later than I might be had I not worked out. Sticking with it for the time being.

Plyometrics
While it was nice to sleep in this morning, I wish I was on the AM workout schedule. Maybe nights are better for me. I won't be able to get it in until after the kids are in bed. It would be nice to be lazy after that. Oh well, I bring it on myself. I can relax after my workout.
Some excitement from this weekend (or not so much from what I heard about Mayweather vs Ortiz). Glad I didn't waste my time or money watching it!

Edit: Got me some plyo at about 2015! I was drained after soccer practice and getting all the kids to bed...well, most of the kids to bed...one decided to stay up.

Chest & Back + Ab Ripper X
Well, I slept in this morning...big surprise! I actually got up, got dressed, picked up my pull-up bar.....and then went back to bed. This was after hitting the snooze button for about an hour. I am not counting today out. I NEED NEED NEED to get it in today. Regardless of what time it is, or what time I go to bed. I need to complete 5 consecutive days!!! WTF?! Right now I'm sitting on 10 days of P90X in 19 days including today...S A D !
Due to budgetary restrictions, my attendance isn't looking too good for my second Warrior Dash... : [
Edit: I got it in last night! Started at about 2030 after getting home from Cub Scouts (8:30pm for those of you that don't habla). Man, was I drained from start to finish. Got in bed about 2300 (11:00pm). Feel great that I got it done.
Buddy of mine started putting my lower receiver together after work. Still have a few more things to finish up, but it's coming together. I would have left it with him to finish if it wasn't NFA. Hopefully be done by the end of the week.
Congrats to Mariano Rivera...MLB record of 602 saves!

M I S S E D ! ! !
Had the idea in my head to rise early and go for a run. Sunday morning can be tough with church. Normally in my best interest that I don't upset the ones trying to get everyone out the door!
This makes me happy! Jake Ellenberger finishes Jake Shields. I just don't like Jake Shields...I don't know...something about him bothers me...maybe it's his mouth...maybe it's the way he had Dan Henderson mounted for a long period of time and wasn't able to finish. I wish Hendo would have been able to finish Shields!

M I S S E D ! ! !
NRA Pistol Instructor Course...not how I like to spend my Saturdays...in class all day long, but I'm trying to build my resume...or my bio...or something like that.
On a good note...while out to lunch during the NRA course, I received an e-mail from the ATF with a copy of my approved Form 1 with tax stamp! I've been approved to make a short barrel rifle! In an unheard of amount of time. The normal turn around time is around 5 months. I got approved in less than a month. It never hurts to ask!
Hamstrings, calves, & hip flexors are sore! My lats are feeling it a little. Blisters on my hands are sore! I touched something the wrong way and it wasn't too nice.

Felt good to sleep in after the last two days! Had a pretty slow day. Went home for lunch and started working on the Jeep. A few hours later, I was still at it and called to see if we had anything going on. Nothing...didn't finish messing with the Jeep until after 1700. And...I still need to tweak a few things.

M I S S E D ! ! !
Had to be at the auto parts store first thing in the AM....had Cub Scouts meeting in the PM....planned on working out when I got home, but I didn't get home until damn near 2100, and then I had to put some stuff together Tuesday & Wednesday's warrant round up in order to be ready to go by 0600.
Upon my arrival to the junk yard, I was escorted around the huge yard to search for the correct part. I told my escort I needed a V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The first one he brought me to, had the same part on it that I didn't need. I only learned that after manuvering in such a manner where I had to lay down on the nasty @$$ ground all kinds of ways. He pointed to the next one which had the correct part. I asked if he had anything else to pick from and he yes, but not anything he could get to easily. I should have checked those! Or, I should have waited around and talked to the guy that was actually going to be pulling the part. Instead, I got a ride back to the office where I waited...and waited. Apparently, the guy pulling was waiting on someone to bring him his tools. The part he brought me was pretty beat up...at least the tie rod end boots were torn on each end that connects to the knuckles. He must have missed a few times with his hammer strokes too, because one of the zerk fittings was bent, and one was missing! I was begining to wish I would have just done the swap!

Plyometrics
Slept in again this morning! Had the urge to work out all day long and was hoping for another slow day that would afford me the opportunity to do so. Almost had it too...until "Big Mo Skeeter" had to show up on our radar. More on that later...
Then, in an attempt to upgrade the steering on my Jeep after a simple front end alignment went to hell, I got the wrong part from the junk yard. I didn't realize it until I got home and it was too late to do anything about it. I needed the steering components from a V8 ZJ, and instead I got the steering components from a I6 ZJ...the same exact part on my Jeep. It would have worked, but it just would not have been an upgrade. It was a nice looking part (set of parts) too. I decided to hold off on the swap and try my luck first thing Monday Morning. After a quick phone call to the junk yard, I found out I was going to be charged a $25 re-stocking fee...f@ck!
I made myself workout when I got home. Chest, shoulders, triceps, quads, glutes, and hip flexors are all sore!!! Hot foot kicked my @$$...I was unable to complete 30 seconds without a break.

M I S S E D ! ! !
This really isn't a good pattern! I try to reassure myself by saying I'm just getting my rest days out of sequence. But, that would mean my 6 day training week turned into 5. what's wrong with me? that's looking like 200 burpees!made a guy get down on the ground at (shot)gunpoint today. another highlight. as I jumped out of the car and ran towards him standing outside of his residence, I yelled at him to get down on the ground. he froze. I yelled at him again, this time louder, at the top of my lungs, shotgun pointed at center mass, "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!" my SWAT days took over. he dropped like a pile of bricks, and was cuffed by a partner from behind. maybe overkill, maybe not with his rap sheet. good guys go home safe...bad guy goes to jail. happy ending!

Legs & Back + Ab Ripper X
The first day of the work week, and I manage to wake up early and start it off right. Sore everywhere! This is another tough workout. Lots of moving around with the leg exercises. It's also my oldest child's birthday today. =] We had a little party for him. Felt like a big party with all the screaming kids running around! I pigged out on pizza, subs, & cake. plus one beer after everyone had left, and everyone was in bed! Which led to me passing out on the couch. Found a guy hiding in an attic today! That was definitely an interesting highlight! More on that later. I've been yelling a lot lately. "BRING YOUR @$$ DOWN!"

Day Five
Monday 09/05/2011 A federal holiday I might add
Yoga
I hadn't forgotten, nor had I missed some of these painful positions. Glutes still sore. Along with hip flexors. First 45 minutes of this DVD are the worst! I can't wait to get to the second 45 minutes! Seriously! Ouch!

And I was doing so well too! Only my fourth day and I already miss one. Unbelievable. I need to set a punishment or something! Maybe like one hundred burpees. I'll give it some thought...

Plyometrics
I don't know how I got out of bed this morning! I did snooze for about an hour since I knew plyo was a little bit shorter of a workout than the rest of them. During the warm up I notice my lats and abs are sore as hell! My shoulders are also sore. I notice fatigue in the muscles I'm working during the workouts. My limbs feel heavy and fatigue quickly. My cardio and endurance are lacking. Surely, from the heavier weight / low rep programming of starting strength.

Back At It Again...
man, have I been lazy! I don't know WTF has been wrong with me lately?! For instance...I slept in this morning...even though my alarm was set for 0430. Snooze city. I was supposed to hit my sixth P90X workout this morning (Chest and Back plus Ab Ripper X)...my first workout of week number two. Yeah...I cut out the Kenpo-X. I was supposed to replace it with a run, but I slept in that day...I did get out of bed and start to get ready, but my throat was bothering me, so back to bed I went. I feel so good after finishing a workout, and so terrible after sleeping in and skipping it. So...why do I allow myself to sleep in? I still have yet to figure that out.
Luckily, my work schedule this week has been a little flexible. Today was a slow day, so I was able to run home and knock it out. I feel so good that I was able to make it up and not miss another day.
My reasoning for getting back on P90X...well, I had been considering it for quite some time now. I was training Starting Strength and really enjoy the program. But I started thinking it wasn't right for me. I think endurance and cardio are going to fit my lifestyle much better. That, and...
...I ran my first Warrior Dash a few weeks ago, and it was a blast! It also kicked my @$$! I thought I was in pretty good shape leading up to it. I had even added some serious cardio workouts revolving around former Muay Thai classes. That mixed with Starting Strength barbell training, I figured I'd be golden. Oh yeah, and a little bit of running. W R O N G ! It was one mile before the first obstacle. My partners and I took off! We weaved in and out of people that had absolutely no running courtesy. I mean, it's common driving courtesy too. Must be the same @$$holes on the road that drive slow in the fast lane. If you're going to run slow, or walk for that matter, move the eff over! Slower people to the right...whether you're walking, running, or driving! By the time we got to the first obstacle, I was hurting. My lungs were burning and I was fighting to catch my breath. The first obstacle was one of the toughest. It was an over under obstacle. Jump over the wall, go under the log, repeat many, many times! I did fairly well, but I feel like I could have done better. I was done, sir done when I finished. I literally thought I was going to puke. If I had to go any farther, I probably would have. Gladly, it passed a little while after stopping.
So...I'm signed up for my second Warrior Dash...with not much time between the two. My plan was to hit P90X hard in between races...with a little bit of running. Hopefully, I'll feel a little better on the course this time around. This one will be a little bit longer by about half a mile.
My plan waaaaaaaaas to get 30 workouts in 30 days, but that's not been going very well. Maybe I'll add in some 2 a days...maybe not.
